The people behind the school

Founded by the Mejias family. Carried forward since 2022.

Carlos and Sandy Mejias secured the land on Oronoco Street in 1973 and opened the school in 1975: two buildings around a courtyard. Long before the arrival of pet superstores, they grew it into a 7,000-square-foot landmark for educating dogs and their owners across the Washington, D.C., area.

In December 2022, Brad Huber and Yubi Bilbao took over the school, keeping its methods, its people and its place on Oronoco Street for the next generation of Alexandria dogs.

Every instructor still completes the apprenticeship Sandy Mejias developed, so the Olde Towne method is passed on exactly as it was taught.

Our approach

“Dogs and people do best when presented with consistency and structure in a fair and kind fashion.”

We find what motivates each dog, then teach every exercise through repetition and praise. It is a formula that has stood the test of time.
